For this brief, we were instructed to create a product that does not exist. Just make it and give it a purpose in whatever world you decide. Be it this one or one of your own creation. From there, I later repurposed my design entirely.
What I had decided to create was a small treasure collector. My story goes as follows: "Being a pirate sure can be exhausting. You go from 'land ho to land ho' and bring it all back into your nice and cold treasure horde. With all that constant back and forth, things can get a little messy and disorganised."
And that's where the coin collector comes into play! Its design was intended to really sell the pirate vibe. What with it being a semi-sentient skull with tentacles and all. The coin collector was intended to be placed in the treasure hordes of pirates so as to ensure that once they've thrown their treasure in, the device will then begin to move around and place these treasures into the empty space in its skull from underneath.
Later however, I had been told to repurpose the design and give it a real world function. To stick to the pirate vibe, I thought to turn it into a whisky glass. From there I then decided to model a Jack Daniel's bottle to accompany the glass. I was later informed that it would have been more accurate to create a bottle of rum to follow through on the pirate theme but I still feel the glass and the Jack Daniel's bottle work well together.
